When we talk about social media, adults often focus on screen time, distraction, or comparison. But during our Hang Haven discussion, I noticed something more complicated: students already understand that social media shapes how they see themselves and each other. This reflection looks at what young people notice when they are given space to talk honestly.

I used to think complicated problems had clear starting points: one cause, one decision, one person or institution responsible. But the more I learned about issues like healthcare, food insecurity, social media, and school lunch access, the more I realized that most problems are shaped by many forces working together. This article explains why systems thinking became the foundation of Hang Haven and why I believe young people should learn to ask not just "What happened?" but "What is causing this to keep happening?"
